The Saab part of Saab Scania was formed in 1937 with the merger of Svenska Aero and a company !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The new firm was named Svenska Aeroplan AB or Swedish Aeroplane Ltd and the first fruit of the new venture was the SAAB B 17.
The odd looking undercarriage fairings were used as air brakes in the dive bomber role.

It's a compound word, the Swedes are nearly as fond of them as the Germans.
Järn = Iron
vägs = way's
verkstädernas = the workshops' (definite plural, genitive of verkstad, workshop)
So, the first bit is "the railway workshops' "
